Text: Matthew 16:13â17 Theme: Moving from perception to revelation through the Word and Spirit Inspired by: God Working with God by Warren Hunter
đ§±Â I. Introduction: The Problem of Limited Perception
Illustration: Hold up a glass and ask, âHow much water is in here?âNow say, âYour answer depends on your perception. The water didnât changeâyour view of it did.â
đ Warren Hunter writes:
âOur perception can shrink God to an obscure idea that is smaller than the circumstances of our life⊠God can never be any bigger than our comprehension of Him.â
𧠠II. What Is Perception?
Perception is your inner lensâhow you interpret reality based on experiences, beliefs, and emotions.Spiritually, itâs how you see God, yourself, and your situation.đ If shaped by fear, perception limits God. If shaped by the Word and Spirit, it activates faith.
đ III. Matthew 16:13â17 â Who Do You Say He Is?
Jesus first asked:
âWho do men say that I am?â â Thatâs public perception
Then He asked:
âBut who do YOU say that I am?â â Thatâs personal revelation
Peter answered:
âYou are the Christ, the Son of the living God.â
Jesus affirmed:
âFlesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.â
âšÂ IV. What Does âChristâ Mean?
Christ = Greek Christos (ΧÏÎčÏÏÏÏ), meaning âAnointed Oneâ or âMessiahâ
To say Jesus is the Christ means:
He is the appointed Redeemer
The fulfillment of prophecy
The one anointed to save, reign, and restore
Peterâs revelation wasnât logicalâit was spiritual insight.
đŒÂ V. Old Testament Example â Numbers 13:33
âWe were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight.â
Their self-perception distorted their God-concept, limiting faith and access.
But Joshua and Caleb saw through faith, not fear.
đ Lesson: You canât enter into promise with a grasshopper mindset.
đ„ VI. God Working with God â Word + Spirit
đ Warren Hunter:
"The greatest manifestations of God happen when the Word and Spirit are working in agreementâwhen God is working with God."
đ At creation: Spirit hovered, Word spokeâlife manifested
đĄÂ When the Word and Spirit unite in you, transformation begins.
Â
đ Â VII. Application â Shifting from Perception to Revelation
Renew Your Mind â Romans 12:2
Meditate on the Word â John 8:31â32
Be Led by the Spirit â John 16:13
Confess Revelation, Not Reputation â Matthew 16:16
đ VIII. Revelation Realized â Christ in You
đ âChrist in you, the hope of glory.â â Colossians 1:27
Peter saw Christ before him.You now carry Christ within you.
This is not just a historical truthâitâs a spiritual reality.
You have moved from witnessing Christ externally to hosting Christ internally.
The same anointing that rested on Christ now resides in you. You are no longer living from the outside in, but from the inside out.
đ Warren Hunter:
âGod working with Godâ becomes a divine partnership:Christ (the Anointed Word)Â in you,The Holy Spirit (the Anointing Power)Â through you.
đč Supporting Scriptures:
đ Galatians 2:20 â "...Christ lives in me..." đ Romans 8:10 â "...the Spirit is life because of righteousness." đ John 14:23 â "...We will come and make Our home with him." đ Ephesians 3:17â19 â "...that Christ may dwell in your hearts... filled with all the fullness of God." đ 1 John 4:4 â "...Greater is He who is in you..." đ 2 Corinthians 4:7 â "...treasure in earthen vessels..." đ Philippians 1:6 â "...He who began a good work in you..."
đĄÂ Live from the inside out. Release the glory already within.
Â
đč IX. Becoming Like God â Theosis
𧠠Theosis = becoming like God in character and glory, by graceânot in divine essence.
đ 2 Peter 1:4 â Partakers of the divine natuređ Romans 8:29 â Conformed to the image of His Sonđ 1 John 3:2 â We shall be like Himđ John 17:22â23 â That they may be one as We are one
đïžÂ You were not just saved from sinâyou were called to reflect His nature.
đ„ X. Resurrection Power â Romans 8:11
đ "...the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus... will also give life to your mortal bodies..."
The same power that raised Christ now quickens you.
đ XI. You Are God's Temple â 1 Corinthians 3:16
đ "You are the temple of God, and the Spirit of God dwells in you."
You are Godâs mobile sanctuaryâHis glory goes where you go.
đ XII. Oneness With Christ â John 14:20
đ "I am in My Father, and you in Me, and I in you."
You live in union with Christâthis is not poetic; it is positional authority.
đ XIII. Prayer Declaration
âLord, expand my vision of You.Tear down every false perception.Reveal Yourself through Your Spirit and Word.I declare You are the Christ, the Anointed One, the Son of the Living God.Christ is in meâthe hope of glory, the power of resurrection, the dwelling place of the Spirit, and the nature of God being formed in me.I receive Your call to walk in truth, union, and divine likeness.â
đ XIV. Closing Challenge: Your Concept of God Determines Your Miracle
âYour concept of God determines your miracle.â
đąÂ How big do you believe God is?
Do you believe He is omnipotent?
Do you believe "in Him we live and move and have our being"? â Acts 17:28
Do you believe "out of your belly will flow rivers of living water"? â John 7:38
Do you believe "all things are possible to him who believes"? â Mark 9:23
đšÂ For the magnificent nature of God to manifest in your lifeâyou must believe it.
đč Let your God-concept be shaped by revelation, not limitation.
